FMDV – Global Fund for Cities Development is the global network of local and regional governments dedicated to developing and promoting financing and investment solutions for sustainable, just, and resilient urban development that is citizen-focused and aligned with global UN commitments. Based on a multi-stakeholder approach, FMDV acts as a convener, bringing together a broad coalition of actors working on urban development finance: national, regional, and local governments, UN agencies, public development banks, investors, private sector, foundations and philanthropies, think tanks and universities, and civil society organizations. FMDV carries out its activities through five main operational pillars, at all levels of governance, international, regional, national, and local: 🔧 Provide strategic advisory and technical assistance to public authorities within the framework of cooperation programs to create the enabling conditions for territorial financing. 🤝 Facilitate and convene multi-stakeholder dialogues through thematic and/or geographic coalitions and alliances, aiming to foster convergence, shared strategies, and operational partnerships among stakeholders engaged in local and regional government finance. 📢 Contribute to and lead international and national advocacy to elevate the issue of localizing financing and its solutions in global and national agendas. 🧠 Strengthen the capacity of public authorities on financing and investment for sustainable, just, and resilient urban development through capacity building and knowledge production based on peer learning and practitioner exchange. 📚 Develop a robust base of sectoral and thematic knowledge to support actors in making informed decisions and identifying financing opportunities adapted to their specific contexts.
