Established in March 1975, it consists of 70 state deputies elected for four-year terms. It also focuses on consumer protection and has educational initiatives aimed at increasing awareness of state politics, particularly among students. The assembly generates legislative products such as bills, legislative indications, state laws, and draft resolutions that shape policies and laws benefiting the citizens of Rio de Janeiro. The assembly is located in the Tiradentes Palace, and as of February 2023, Rodrigo Bacellar serves as its President.
