The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) is a public-private partnership established in 1981 to enhance the economic value of Alaska’s wild seafood industry. It focuses on strategic marketing, sustainability advocacy, and global brand management. ASMI promotes the Alaska Seafood brand while ensuring sustainable fisheries management and fostering collaboration within the industry. ASMI develops global marketing campaigns to increase consumer awareness and demand for Alaska seafood. It champions sustainability by adhering to rigorous environmental standards and facilitates partnerships among processors, harvesters, and distributors. The organization also conducts research and educational initiatives to support innovation in the seafood sector. ASMI promotes a variety of wild-caught seafood, including salmon, crab, halibut, sablefish, and shellfish, as well as value-added products like ready-to-eat and frozen options. With a governance structure that includes a board representing various industry stakeholders, ASMI is funded through a seafood levy and contributions from the state and industry. Over the years, it has established Alaska as a leader in sustainable seafood, benefiting thousands of commercial fishermen and seafood workers.
