The Canadian Observatory on Homelessness (COH) is a non-profit research institute focused on addressing homelessness through research, policy, and practice. Based at York University in Toronto, Ontario, it was established from the Canadian Homelessness Research Network in 2008. Dr. Stephen Gaetz serves as its President & CEO. COH aims to transform the approach to homelessness by promoting prevention and coordinated solutions. Its work centers on five key themes, including early intervention and leveraging data to inform policy. The organization collaborates with academics, policymakers, service providers, and individuals with lived experience to develop effective strategies. The COH conducts research and mobilizes knowledge to inform solutions to homelessness. It operates the Homeless Hub, an online resource offering information and a newsletter on homelessness prevention. Additionally, the COH provides guidance through the Systems Planning Collective and has developed intervention guides to assist service providers in addressing youth homelessness effectively.
