Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLS), also known as Centre canadien de rayonnement synchrotron (CCRS), is Canada's national synchrotron light source facility located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Established in 1999 and operational since 2004, it is one of the largest scientific infrastructure investments in Canadian history. The facility features a third-generation 2.9 GeV storage ring and serves as a multidisciplinary research hub, supporting over 5,700 users and facilitating nearly 8,000 scientific publications since 2005. CLS provides synchrotron-based analytical services through its Industry Services Group, offering fee-for-service access to beamlines for advanced material characterization, technical expertise in experimental design, and specialized facilities like the SyLMAND cleanroom for deep X-ray lithography. The CLS collaborates with over 200 Canadian institutions and researchers from 45 countries, focusing on key areas such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, environmental science, and advanced manufacturing. The facility plays a vital role in bridging fundamental research and industrial innovation, contributing to scientific and socio-economic advancements in Canada.
