The Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO) is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1967 with the support of UNESCO. Based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, it aims to advance social sciences through research and education. The organization has a network of 680 to 937 research centers and graduate programs across 51 to 56 countries, including regions in Latin America, the Caribbean, the United States, Africa, and Europe. CLACSO promotes academic projects and researcher training, facilitates exchanges between academic institutions and social movements, and operates a virtual library with over 900,000 open-access academic texts. It publishes books, journals, and policy documents with a critical Latin American perspective. Additionally, CLACSO offers international courses on topics such as inequality and human rights, and recognizes outstanding research through the CLACSO Awards. The organization collaborates with universities, social organizations, and international bodies like UNESCO and CELAC, supported by contributions from its members and international cooperation.
