The Council of Institutional Investors (CII) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association based in the United States. Established in 1985 by 21 public pension fund officials, CII advocates for effective corporate governance, strong shareholder rights, and sensible financial regulations. Its mission includes educating members, policymakers, and the public about corporate governance and related investment issues. CII offers education and advocacy on best practices in corporate governance and provides networking opportunities through conferences and events. The organization develops policies and guidelines focused on shareholder rights, executive compensation, and board refreshment. CII engages with a wide range of market participants, including public pension systems, asset managers, and regulators, to promote fair capital markets. Its membership includes over 320 organizations, representing more than $5 trillion in assets under management, including many of the largest U.S. asset owners.
