The Humboldt Area Foundation (HAF) is a philanthropic organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in California's Pacific Redwoods region, which includes Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, and Curry counties. HAF aims to create a thriving, just, healthy, and equitable region through collaborative investments and strategic partnerships. The foundation works closely with the Wild Rivers Community Foundation to implement a 10-year strategic vision focused on racial equity, supporting youth and families, promoting healthy ecosystems, and fostering community leadership. HAF offers various services, including grantmaking, scholarships, and capacity-building initiatives. Its grantmaking fund supports youth leadership and cultural opportunities, while the Native Cultures Fund revitalizes Native American arts and knowledge. The foundation awards over 400 scholarships annually to North Coast students and provides training for emerging leaders in civic engagement and nonprofit management. HAF also manages donor-advised and field-of-interest funds to address community needs, such as disaster recovery and food security, emphasizing cross-sector collaboration with tribal governments, educational institutions, and environmental groups.
