The Assyrians are the descendants of the ancient Assyrian people, one of the earliest civilizations emerging in the Middle East, with a history spanning over 6760 years. Assyrians are Christian, with their own unique language, culture, and heritage. Despite the end of the Assyrian empire in 612 B.C., the Assyrian people have continuously been present in history. Today, Assyrians are a stateless people facing religious and ethnic persecution in the Middle East due to Islamic fundamentalism, Arabization, and Kurdification policies.
