The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) is a learned organization representing the scientific minds of Malaysia. ASM is a statutory body under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The Academy is mandated by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia Act 1994 to advise the government and stakeholders on matters related to science, engineering and technology (SET). Among its 14 functions, ASM places high importance on pursuing excellence in science, engineering and technology for the benefit of all. Thus, ASM carries out strategic studies and produces reports, position papers, blueprints, roadmaps and reviews which are independent, evidence-based, reliable and timely. The recommendations are designed to help policy makers and government officials comprehend the issues to enable them to design and develop practical and inclusive action plans. ASM's programmes are designed to develop and nurture talent in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at various levels ranging from school to young scientists. ASM collaborates and partners with corporations and ministries in reaching out to more young talents. Many of ASM's flagship programmes are carried out as pilot projects and later taken up by relevant players. ASM also actively participates in the global SET arena positioning Malaysians scientists in various platforms and programmes. ASM consist of Fellows across eight disciplines ranging from Medical Sciences to Social Sciences and Humanities. With the widespread of expertise, ASM's voice in addressing matters of national importance is now unified and more inclusive. ASM is further supported by a pool of experts consisting of Associates, members of Young Scientists Network (YSN-ASM) and recipients of Top Research Scientists Malaysia in carrying its mandate effectively.
