On our way into a sustainable future, bioprocessing will gain importance in as a key pillar of the bioeconomy. Industries who traditionally use chemical processes, are looking to implement bioprocesses instead, but this shift is hindered by a cost, time and labor intensive R&D. The "Microbial Bioprocess Lab" was founded in 2016 as "Helmholtz Innovation Lab" at the Research Center Jülich with the mission to eliminate the bottleneck of time-intensive bioprocess development steps via miniaturization, automation and digitalization. Since 2023, we are funded by the Helmholtz Enterprise Spin-off Program, supporting our vision to build a biofoundry for Europe. The MiBioLab offers contract research services and consulting in the area of bioprocess development and automation. We support industrial R&D with our automated microbioreactor plattform for accelerated bioprocess development. Typical tasks are strain characterization, medium and process opimization, but we also offer tailored solutions to meet your bioprocess challenges. Our experienced scientists handle your R&D task in a reliable, confidential and time-efficient manner. Our unique technology platform with powerful robotic workflows, our in-house design of experiment toolbox and our bioanalytical capabilities enable fast strain characterization and process development under production-relevant conditions (pH regulated batch and fed-batch). Our full-service package is completed by validation experiments in lab scale bioreactors. Addionally, we conduct application studies for the microcultivation in the BioLector (Beckman Coulter Life Sciences) and offer support for the down-scaling of bioprocesses into the BioLector and help to optmize BioLector experiments and increase the reproducability.
