Piranha Arts is an independent creative company made in Berlin since 1987. From the very start, music has been our driving force. Our aim is to increase the value of crossing borders – be they cultural, political or commercial. Drawing from more than 25 years of experience as cultural innovators, technical developers, curators, partners and multipliers, the Piranha Arts tree now has seven dynamic branches. It all started with the Piranha Records, introducing new sounds & artists from the world to the world; and Piranha Kultur, staging cutting-edge festivals and providing programming and production services for events worldwide. International music networking events such as WOMEX and Classical:NEXT came next. In addition Piranha collaborates with a diverse range of partners ranging from governments (national to municipal level), the European Union, UNESCO, NGOs, GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation), Goethe-Institut, Caribbean Development Bank, universities, arts councils and foundations to private operators, such as event producers, networks or festivals. Piranha successfully offers cosultancy and expertise to its diverse partners and collaborateors and helps them grow and foster their events and/or projects. Since 2016, Piranha Arts is also the organiser of the Karneval der Kulturen, Berlin's 1.5 million street parade and fest. Piranhas have been engaged with the KdK from the beginning on as musicians, in the jury or by organising after-show parties. The independent shareholder company is legally represented by CEO Luca Jacob Borkowsky and supervised by a board consisting of Brigitte Bieg (chairwomen), Frank Klaffs (VP) and Ben Mandelson.
