The Graphene Flagship is a major European research initiative aimed at advancing graphene and related 2D materials from research to commercialization. Launched in 2013 with a budget of €1 billion, it is coordinated by Chalmers University of Technology and involves over 150 academic and industrial partners across more than 20 European countries. The initiative focuses on transitioning graphene technologies into practical applications, promoting industrial adoption, and fostering economic growth. Core activities include scaling graphene production methods, developing graphene-based components like sensors and electronics, and integrating these materials into various applications such as energy storage and biomedical devices. The initiative also supports innovation through intellectual property strategy, industry collaboration, and training programs. Key projects like the 2D-Pilot Line and GrapheneEU aim to industrialize 2D-material fabrication and maximize industrial impact. The Graphene Flagship plays a significant role in enhancing Europe's position in the 2D materials sector, contributing to job creation and technological independence.
