Greenlink Interconnector Limited is an Irish company focused on a major infrastructure project that connects the power grids of Ireland and Great Britain. The company is developing and operating the Greenlink Interconnector, a 500 MW high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine power cable. This interconnector facilitates electricity exchange between the two countries, enhancing energy security and supporting the integration of low-carbon energy sources. The Greenlink Interconnector spans 190 km, linking EirGrid's Great Island substation in County Wexford, Ireland, to National Grid's Pembroke substation in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It operates at a DC voltage of 320 kV and connects to AC systems at 400 kV in the UK and 220 kV in Ireland. The project has the capacity to power approximately 380,000 homes, benefiting both residential and commercial electricity consumers. As of April 2025, the interconnector is operational, marking a significant advancement in energy exchange between the two nations.
