la diaria is a Uruguayan newspaper and media organization established in 2006 in Montevideo by university students and citizens. It aims to provide an alternative to existing press offerings and operates as a socially conscious enterprise with a focus on collective ownership and community connection. The company publishes a daily print newspaper from Monday to Friday, recently expanding to weekends, and is the second best-selling newspaper in Uruguay. It employs around 137 people, many of whom are involved in nationwide distribution. la diaria is known for its cultural and political influence, participatory journalism, and a fact-checking unit that has been operational since 2019. In addition to its print publication, la diaria offers a subscription model that generates about 90% of its revenue. It also launched la diaria Radio in 2023 and produces audio-visual content to engage audiences across various formats. The magazine Slow, published since 2013, focuses on in-depth cultural and political topics. Specialized services like la diaria Educación cater to the educational community, covering relevant news and issues.
