The National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) is a not-for-profit educational organization established in 1935. Its mission is to advance the global scale model railroading community through education, advocacy, and the development of standards. The NMRA was formed to create common standards that ensure compatibility and interchangeability of model railroad equipment, addressing challenges faced by early model railroad clubs. The NMRA develops and maintains technical standards for various aspects of scale model railroading, including track, wheels, couplers, and electrical systems. It provides educational resources to promote the hobby and organizes conventions, meetings, and local club activities to foster social interaction among model railroaders. With over 16,000 active members worldwide, the NMRA serves a diverse community of hobbyists, from casual enthusiasts to serious modelers, supporting the growth and sustainability of the model railroading hobby.
