ASTRON is the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy, located in Dwingeloo. Established in 1949, it operates under the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and focuses on advancing discoveries in radio astronomy through innovative technology, facility operations, and fundamental research. The institute operates world-class observational facilities, including the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) and the Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR). These telescopes have played a significant role in astronomical discoveries, such as Fast Radio Bursts. ASTRON also develops advanced instrumentation and software to support current and future telescopes, including the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), which is set to be the largest radio telescope globally. ASTRON collaborates with universities and institutions worldwide, contributing to the global astronomical research community and leading initiatives like the SKA project.
